There are few things more enjoyable then a
day on the water or sitting in a deer stand, but this
reality is becoming more and more a thing of the past for
many people. The economy continues to be unstable for
employment, housing and daily expenses; the situation is
more than many families can bear.
With special interests pushing their agenda
in Washington, who is looking out for you? I’ll represent
your interests from day one.
Thank you for visiting my web site. I hope
you take a couple of minutes to learn a little more about
who I am and what I believe.
Childhood
My greatest childhood memories are from
northern Minnesota. Growing up, I remember many times going
up to my grandparents resort on the Scenic Highway north of
Grand Rapids and Bovey.
This was where I remember fishing from the
dock catching little sunnies, learning how to swim and
learning how to track in the woods. I remember walking down
to the mailbox, picking blueberries and finding mushrooms
for Grandma Cummins. In the mid-70's my Grandma Cummins
passed away and Grandpa Cummins moved to Bovey where we
would walk up the hill and look into the mines. I remember
my Grandpa Cummins white car turning red as he drove us into
the mines. It really was pretty cool seeing all of the big
trucks.
Adulthood:
I was 24 when my Grandpa Cummins passed away
and I love to visit Grand Rapids where my grandparents are
buried. It amazes me how much things have changed and how
much they have stayed the same. We always stay at the
Sawmill Inn when we stay overnight, which used to be the
Holiday Inn back in the late 70's and early 80's (not sure
when it changed ownership).
After the funeral, I remember driving to the
resort and removing the resort sign. I love history because
it always brings me back to where I came from; that resort
sign still hangs in the family room of my home— an icon of
my memorable youth.
Today I hunt, fish, snowmobile, ice fish,
ATV, Scuba Dive and ski in Northern Minnesota. I also love
to go antler hunting in the spring - I have not done as well
as I would like, but there are many more opportunities to
find that great shed.
As a family we love to go up the North Shore
to Gooseberry Falls, Split Rock and a little out-of-the-way
rest stop just north of Duluth for sandwiches every time we
visit the area. Minnesota has so much to offer; from the
BWCA, to Ice Fishing on Rainy, to Diving in the Crosby
Mines. I also enjoy Bass fishing in the Chisago Lakes area
and Walleye fishing at Mille Lacs. Minnesota is just a
great place to raise a family.
Right now, Washington is waging an all-out
assault on the family. The price of energy, food and
everything else continues to rise faster than families can
keep up.
It is time for a change; but a change we can
afford. I ask for your help this fall in sending me to
Washington where I will use my years of business experience
to make meaningful changes— changes to benefit the people of
our district.
Thanks
Michael Cummins
